The Debate team meets every Wednesday in Mrs. Burns room. Junior Daysha Reed, a member of the team says, “when we did debates, we talked about stuff like animal testing, gun control and abortion.” Though the topics were tough, Daysha describes them as “wild.”
They practice their debate skills in many different ways, one way is to split the room in two. There’s an against side and a for side and a group that is just neutral if someone feels uncertain about their topic. They use their skills against each other, that often turns into a thrilling debate.
They expect to be competing soon, and as for practice, the team plans to go to Chelsea to watch a tournament and learn.

“We plan to watch one because we are such a new team, and we have never done it before,” junior Madison Thurston said.

The debate team is fairly new and they are just getting to know what it is like to compete against other schools. Anyone is welcome to join especially if they love a good discussion on Wednesdays from 2:30 to 3:30.
