Since she was a little girl, it’s always been Brooke Allen’s dream to cheer for a football team, and her dream came true about a week ago.
Allen had to send in a video of herself cheering and stunting to the Michigan State University cheer team coaches. From the videos, about 20 girls were invited to in-person tryouts. From there it was three days of tryouts. Candidates could be cut at any time. Allen admits she was pretty nervous.
In the first hour and a half, 10 girls were cut. The next day, two more were cut. Allen was not one of them. On the final day there were just eight girls remaining. They had to try out in front of a panel of judges and only three of them could make the team.
In the tryout, they had to do tumbling, stunts, cheers, band chants and the MSU fight song.
When she got home, Allen was nervous but was also happy about the way she had performed.
A couple days later, Allen got the email saying she had made the MSU cheerleading team.
“I was freaking out and jumping around my house,” Allen said.
Allen has already started watching games and watching the MSU cheerleaders. She can’t wait to be out in the field herself with them cheering on MSU athletics.
