Haslett vs St. Johns varsity boys basketball

Snow is falling and the guys are playing against the St. Johns Redwings. Tough matchup with senior Darek Wroblak still out with a concussion and junior Evan Block with a broken hand.

Into the action, after one quarter, senior Brandon Allen has 11 points, senior Luke Sleeper with five and junior Paul Fiorillo has two. The Vikings are moving the ball well, around the three-point line and into the paint for easy buckets. At the end of one, the Vikings have the lead 18-10.

At half, the Vikings have held onto the lead 30-21. Allen contributed eight more, to leave him with 19 and Sleeper ends with seven. Shots have been falling easily for the Vikings tonight, taking. Defensively they are constantly getting stops  in the paint and causing misses from the three point line. Allen has got into a little foul trouble with three so far.

Redwings brought good pressure coming out of halftime, causing the Vikes to make a couple costly turnovers in the third. The Redwings snuck through with a couple debatable calls but the Vikings are still bringing the hammer down on the Redwings. Allen has 25 points and six threes through three quarters.

The final score for the game, Haslett (8-7) beats St. Johns (3-12) 62-53, staying in third in the CAAC Blue. The Vikings completely dominated tonight crashing the boards and contesting all around shots. Close throughout but Haslett comes away with the win. Allen led the team with 31 points but also by facilitating, getting the ball moving and driving to the basket. The Viking big men did the job, crashing the boards and working the paint.

Next Tuesday, all boys teams face up against Lansing Catholic Cougars (13-1). Varsity begins at 7 p.m.
