Dewitt beats Haslett varsity boys again 68-66

Story: Kyle Looney, Staff Writer

Unnaturally warm weather for a rivalry night of basketball. The Vikings face off against long time rival, the Dewitt Panthers in a CAAC Red Contest. The Panthers look for another upset after a buzzer beater against the Vikings earlier this season.
Into the action after one, Panthers lead the Vikings, 24-14. Senior Darek Wroblak has returned to play after missing 4-5 games with a concussion. Vikings have givenĀ up many easy fast-breaks with multiple turnovers.
Halftime and Panthers keep the fast pace ball movement to hold the lead 38-28. Foul trouble early for the Vikings with six fouls and the Panthers with five. Vikings can’t seem to get a basket to fall at the moment. Panthers are outplaying the Vikings all around the arc and behind the three point line.
End of the third, Panthers got outscored 17-8. Panthers lead by a small margin, 46-45. Vikes are pushing the ball and bringing the heavy defense. Seniors William Holton and Luke Sleeper have picked up some blocks with Holton having two and Sleeper with one.
Final for the boys, 68-66, Panthers win. A very well contested shot, Tanner Reha knocks down the winning two. With four seconds left, the Vikings got the ball inbounds and kick it all the way to the three point line to Holton got the ball but it came up short. The Haslett boys suffer another loss to their rival but the game was intense at the end. Sleeper and senior Brandon Allen combined for five threes in the final two minutes. Allen finished with 23 points and Sleeper with 20 points to close out the night.
Next week all boys and girls teams take a trip to face Fowlerville on Tuesday.
