College application season is coming to an end, but there are still a few details seniors and other students should be aware of.

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA allows schools to determine how much financial aid students receive.

“Both students and parents will be involved in filling out the FAFSA,” counselor Kasey Sauder said. “You can create an ID. Put in your information, as well as your parents’ information.”

The deadline to receive the most financial aid possible, for the FAFSA is March 1. “In order to maximize the amount of financial aid you can get, the earlier the better,” she said.

Scholarships are another way students can earn money for college.

“Haslett area scholarships are available on the counseling office website, under ‘scholarships and financial aid.’ All the links are there, and Haslett area scholarships are due by Jan. 11.”

As the juniors prepare to take the SAT in the spring, there are some helpful resources to ease the studying process.

“There’s SAT prep information on our website and (juniors) will be doing SAT prep in their classes as well. Khan Academy is my biggest suggestion for that,” Sauder said.

The SAT/PSAT will be on April 9, the Tuesday after spring break.
