Haslett Middle School special education teacher Ross Baker has returned to coach the girls varsity basketball team. He took a break from coaching last Jan.13 to get treatments for a cancer called Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He has made a full recovery.

19,910 people die from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma every year with more than 200,000 cases in the U.S. The condition occurs when the body produces too many abnormal lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell. Symptoms include swollen lymph nodes, fever, belly pain, or chest pain.

But now that he is cancer free, Baker is back in business.

“My players were incredibly supportive throughout my treatments,” he said. “I am excited to be back.”
